MILLWORK

SEIFERT CONSTRUCTION OPERATES ITS OWN MILL SHOP ON THE NORTH FORK, BUILT TO SERVE THE COMPANY'S PROJECTS AND NOTHING ELSE.

Carpentry has always been central to Seifert Construction, and the mill shop grew out of that. The company has had some form of mill shop since its early years, but the current shop, a 2,500 square foot facility at the Mattituck headquarters, was purpose built to serve every North Fork project the company takes on.

COMMON CHALLENGES FOR NORTH FORK HOMEOWNERS

Custom homes and careful renovations often need architectural details that do not exist as stock products: a mantel built to match a specific room, a trim profile that matches a historic house, a hidden door built into a paneled wall.

Builders without their own shop have to order these details from an outside vendor, which adds lead time and removes a level of control. Clients working on a serious residential project on the North Fork need a partner who can execute custom carpentry directly, without waiting on a third party.

WHAT OUR NORTH FORK MILLWORK SHOP INCLUDES

The company's own mill shop builds custom doors, cabinetry, mantels, screen panels, windows, and architectural trim, essentially any custom woodwork a project calls for. Past work includes custom round casings and trim for windows and doors, mahogany screen and storm panels built to nonstandard sizes, and doors built to disappear into a wall. If a client or architect can describe a detail, the shop can generally build it.

The mill shop works only on Seifert Construction projects. The company does not take on outside orders, which means every piece produced there is built for one specific North Fork house, on that house's schedule.

BENEFITS & OUTCOMES

Clients get genuinely custom millwork, often produced faster and at a lower cost than sourcing comparable work from an outside vendor, without a drop in quality. Because the shop serves only Seifert Construction jobs, there is no competing order ahead of a client's project in line.

OUR APPROACH

The mill shop has been run for more than 30 years by the company's longtime head foreman. That kind of tenure matters in millwork. The difference between an adequate custom detail and a well made one usually comes down to years of hands on knowledge about wood, tools, and technique, not just access to the right equipment.

WHAT MAKES OUR MILL SHOP DIFFERENT

Few builders on the North Fork run their own dedicated mill shop, and fewer still reserve it for their own clients only. That distinction matters more than it might seem. It means the custom details in a Seifert built home were not sourced from a catalog. They were built by the same people, under the same roof, held to the same standard as the rest of the house.
