CUSTOM HOME CONSTRUCTION ON THE NORTH FORK

BUILT BY THE SAME FAMILY FOR THREE GENERATIONS,
WORKING THE SAME STRETCH OF THE NORTH FORK COASTLINE.

Seifert Construction has been building custom homes on the North Fork of Long Island for more than 70 years. The business started with carpentry work and grew, generation by generation, into full home construction. Fred and John Seifert run the company today, continuing work their father and grandfather began decades earlier on this same stretch of the East End.

Custom home construction is the core of what the company does. Clients typically come to Seifert Construction with a piece of North Fork property and a general sense of how they want to live on it. From there, the company manages the process from early planning through the day the keys change hands, building a home meant to hold up for decades against real coastal weather.

COMMON CONCERNS FOR NORTH FORK HOMEOWNERS

Building a custom home is a major undertaking, financially and otherwise. Most clients have thought about this house for years before they ever call a North Fork builder, and they are looking for someone who will take that seriously.

The industry does not always make this easy. Work gets subcontracted out to whoever is available that month. Schedules slip without much explanation. Decisions get made without the client in the room. Seifert Construction was built the opposite way, with the family staying close to every job and every client through the entire process.

WHAT CUSTOM HOME CONSTRUCTION INCLUDES

A custom home with Seifert Construction moves through four stages: bidding, pre-construction planning, construction, and a final punch list before the home is handed over. How long that takes depends on the size and complexity of the project, and on how many decisions are already made before the crew breaks ground.

Projects range widely in scale. The company has built additions of roughly 800 square feet and new homes of 10,000 square feet or more on the North Fork, holding both to the same standard. Most of the work is concentrated between Aquebogue and Orient, including Shelter Island, Cutchogue, and Southold, and much of it sits on waterfront property, though the company does not specialize in one architectural style. Traditional shingled homes and contemporary designs both come through the shop in a given year.

Carpentry, inside and outside the house, is handled by the company's own crews rather than farmed out to subcontractors. That has been true since the business started, and it remains true today.

OUR APPROACH TO BUILDING ON THE NORTH FORK

Once a client selects Seifert Construction as their builder, the company stays close to every decision from that point forward. Projects move faster when choices are made early, so the team pushes for clarity on materials, finishes, and layout well before construction starts, rather than working those questions out mid build.

The company also keeps up with new materials and building methods, partly out of interest and partly because North Fork clients expect it. Seventy years of experience does not mean doing things the way they were done in 1948. It means knowing which changes are worth making and which ones are not.

WHAT MAKES US A DIFFERENT KIND OF NORTH FORK BUILDER

Most builders subcontract their carpentry. Seifert Construction does not. The company got its start in high end carpentry work, and that background still shows in how the crews approach trim, stairs, and other detail work most builders would hand off to someone else.

Three generations of building specifically on the North Fork also means the company understands things a newcomer would not, including how the coastal climate affects material choices and which local tradespeople do reliable work. None of that shows up in a brochure. It shows up in the finished house.
